Appointments to Bexley Care Trust Board

Two new Non-executive Directors have been appointed at Bexley Care Trust. The
appointment of Cllr John Davey and Cllr Eileen Pallen from the London Borough of Bexley has been agreed by the Appointments Commission.
They will serve as Non-executive Directors for four years, from 5 August 2010, or until the end of their current term of office as a councillor.
Cllr John Davey is a computer software consultant. He is also Chairman of the Arts Council of Bexley, and a governor at three schools. He has been a school governor for more than 20 years.
John is committed to improving the health and well-being of everyone who lives and works in Bexley, as well as reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in the borough, enhancing our parks and open spaces, and looking after our historic buildings.
Cllr Davey said: “I am delighted to be joining Bexley Care Trust as a non-executive
director. Good healthcare is essential to ensure a high quality of life for local people and I am committed to ensuring that local services are as good as they can be. This role provides a great opportunity to help develop the very best heath services possible for people in Bexley.”
Cllr Eileen Pallen has lived in Bexley for more than 20 years. She is a Trustee for a local carers’ charity and has worked for an anti-bullying charity for young people. She is employed investigating claims of bullying and harassment for a wide range of organisations.
She said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to play an integral role in the way health services are delivered. Health services face some exciting challenges and I am committed to ensuring local people get the services they deserve, with patients, their families and carers playing a key role in healthcare in Bexley.”
Both Eileen and John will receive annual remuneration of £7,882. The appointments have been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice.
The appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. In accordance with the Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if any is declared) to be made public. Eileen and John are members of the Conservative party; neither hold any ministerial appointments.
